UltraGrid 1.9 Release with native Apple M1 Arch support

UltraGrid 1.7.2 with NDI® support

A new minor release of UltraGrid is now available at the download page or at Github. Among other features from now on UltraGrid comes with built in NDI® support. NDI libraries have still to be installed separately. For the installation instructions please follow the UltraGrid Github Wiki.

Another story featuring UltraGrid has been published by In the field blog. The authors go back to the net:art near in the distance production performed Brucknerhaus Linz in June 2017. The near in the distance 3 production connected multiple locations across Europe including Linz, Barcelona, Prague, and Rome. SFJAZZ MasterClass Demonstration

We have participated on a three-site jazz masterclass , featuring artists – Robin Eubanks (SFJAZZ Collective) and Adam Theis (Jazz Mafia) as masters, a SFJAZZ Monday Night Band ensemble, and a Stanford University student musician as participants. The masterclass demonstration was held within the programme of the Internet2 2017 Technology Exchange event. For more information see the programme entry.

UltraGrid and Jacktrip was used to implement the masterclass demonstration using commodity hardware and networks as well as to connect SFJAZZ, Stanford University, CESNET and the Internet2 Technology Exchange event for remote presentations and a panel discussion on the topic.

Using simulations of acute care to aid stroke patients

Live Cardiologic Cases Transmissions

We continue to support the live cases transmissions at the congresses held by the Czech Society of Cardiology. We have deployed UltraGrid for interactive transmissions of interventional cardiology cases from the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine in Prague and from the teaching hospital in Hradec Králové. A part of the programme was also an open heart surgery we have transmitted from the teaching hospital in Hradec Králové.

In all cases we have transmitted a live cases video including the imagery from variety of instruments and allowed for live and very interactive discussions over the live cases content between the workshop or congress chairs and participants and the surgeons and specialists conducting the cases in the remote hospitals.

Cardiology workshop

We continue to support local medical communities by bringing live transmissions of cardiology interventions to the specialists from the local hospitals in the South Moravian region of the Czech republic. We have transmitted three cases during the St. Anne 2017 cardiology workshop including a not planned transmission of acute heart attack treatment. From a technical point of view, we are starting to bring HEVC video coding into production with the UltraGrid to allow for higher video quality on commodity network links available especially in local hospitals.

NITS symposium

On Friday 9th December we have transmitted two unique cases of non-intubated thoracic surgeries from the University Hospital Brno to the participants of the NITS symposium held in the Masaryk University campus. Both cases showcased a unique method of lung wedge resection and lobectomy presented by specialists from the National Taiwan University Hospital in Taipei. The non-intubated method of the surgeries was carried out on such a large scale for the very first time in the Czech republic providing the patient the most considerate treatment available. The transmissions using the UltraGrid platform left a very good impression in terms of both images quality (namely from the laparoscopic camera) and the interactivity.

Dental Summit

From October 28 to October 29 we have for the first time, deployed UltraGrid to transmit live reconstructive dental surgeries to mediate the live cases in larger than life size. The cases were presented at the Dental Summit congress in Prague under the auspices of the Palacky University Olomouc. You can find out more about Dental Summit at their website.

Lukluv den

September 29, we have participated at Lukluv den, a local cardiology workshop, organized by the University Hospital in Olomouc. UltraGrid was used again for the transmissions of three live cases including the demonstrations of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation method.

Demonstration of 8K video at TNC16

June 16, 2016 at TNC16 Networking Conference, he largest and most prestigious European research networking conference, CESNET has demonstrated in collaboration with the colleagues from Polish PSNC centre the first live 8K video transmission using the PC platform. An interactive transmission connected the PSNC centre in Poznan with the TCN16 conference venue in Prague across the Géant network. The transmission was implemented using the UltraGrid SW developed by CESNET for very high quality video and audio transmissions.

We helped to transmit the second release of Ikarie XB-1 movie.

Following a successful screening at the Cannes Festival, the legendary sci-fi film Ikarie XB-1 enters Czech cinemas. The digitally restored version returns the film to the form it had when it was first made in 1963. The ceremonial premiere will take place on Thursday 16 June at 8.30 pm, in two cities simultaneously! At the same time, the Ikarie XB-1 experience will be shared by watchers at both Světozor cinema in the centre of Prague and the Scala at Moravské Square in Brno. The live transmission between the cinemas, provided by CESNET, is a telling proof of the fact that some visions of the sci-fi genre have become reality. Tickets to both the premieres are on sale. Upcoming events

May 15, 2016 we will be participating in Czech Cardiology Society (CKS) congress. Live cases will be streamed from the Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem and General University Hospital in Prague to BVV Brno. Harmonogram of the event is available at CKS website.

May 20, 2016 Movie festival of Faculty of Informatics MU will take place at the faculty. UltraGrid will be streaming live to the Scala University Cinema.

Czech and Slovak endoscopic days

May 5, 2016 we provided live streaming for 38. České a Slovenské endoskopické dny in Hradec Králové. We streamed from the Faculty Hospital Hradec Králové to the Aldis Congress centre. More information is available at 38. České a Slovenské endoskopické dny webpage.

April streams

During the last week UltraGrid was used to bring a number of interesting Live Cases to three different medical workshops and congresses.

Telematic Jazz Performances with UltraGrid

UltraGrid was lately used at two music events: On February 26th it was used in UC Irvine to connect musicans at remote locations. Event by name "Spooky Interaction" connected San Francisco Jazz Center, the University of Pittsburgh and UC Irvine into one great show.

UltraGrid was also used on March 22th for three-site Jazz jam at Network Performing Arts Production Workshop. UltraGrid streams from San Francisco, Miami and University of California-Davis joined into one performence.

October 24, 2015 was UltraGrid used in San Francisco for streaming of multiple performances from SFFJazz center to local libraries connected by the CENIC network.

15th Annual Global LambdaGrid Workshop

This week was UltraGrid technology demonstrated at 15th Annual Global LambdaGrid Workshop hosted by Cesnet.

We are providing support of realization of interactive music and dance show „near in the distance 2“. The idea came from Austrian ACOnet. The stream will connect Vienna, Barcelona, Prag, Ljubljana, Judenburg and New York on June 25, 2015.

On May 24, 2015 we provided streaming for XXIII. Annual Congress of the Czech Society of Cardiology. We streamed live cases from Plzeň and Olomouc to BVV (Brno Trade Fairs and Exhibitions) in Brno.

XXV. workshop of Interventional cardiology in Hradec Králové

On 16 and 17, April we provided stream of multiple operations for XXV. workshop of Interventional cardiology. We streamed from the university hospital Hradec Kralove to Charles University in Hradec Kralove.

19. Warsaw Course on Cardiovascular Interventions

On April, 15 we provided live stream of operation from Fakultní nemocnice Brno to 19. Warsaw Course on Cardiovascular Interventions (WCCI) conference in Poland.

Heart surgery online on kardio.tv

We provided live stream of heart surgery on January 23, 2015 for Kardio.tv internet television. The title of stream was „Insight into the cardiac vessels“ and was streamed from The University Hospital Brno.

UltraGrid for Malaysia

Prague, 28 January 2015. The Malaysian telecommunication company Telecom Malaysia Research & Development has expressed an interest in the UltraGrid technology, which enables low-latency video transmission over the Internet at resolutions from HD up to 4K, developed by the CESNET association.

CineGrid

December 19, 2014. In collaboration with Česká televize and Universal Production Partners (UPP) we introduced new concept of system for live streaming of sport and cultural events using high-speed Internet networks. Demonstration took place at CineGrid workshop in San Diego.

Aalst-Eindhoven-Brno Course on Coronary Physiology 2014

November 25, 2014 Brno. UltraGrid was used for live streaming of intervention cardiology procedures, which were streamed on Aalst-Eindhoven-Brno Course on Coronary Physiology 2014.Video was accompanied by commentaries spoken by surgeons. It was streamed from Fakultní nemocnice Brno to Brno rescue services lecture hall.

Ultragrid and i2CAT Visionair project

As a continuation of ongoing collaboration, researchers from CESNET and Sitola in cooperation with researchers from i2CAT foundation are evaluating integration of their respective projects – UltraGrid and liveMediaStreamer.

Public Angio webcast 2014

October 31, 2014 – UltraGrid was used at the first live public stream of interventional surgery in ČR. Stream took place in Fakultní nemocnice Brno, operations were transmitted to online television named Kardio.tv, which specializes on diagnostic and treatment of heart and vascular diseases.

Prague, November 6, 2013. During the State of the Art medical conference on urogynecology and reconstruction pelvis surgery that took place in Zlín on 1st and 2nd November UltraGrid was used for video transmission of several surgeries.

Interactive transmissions of new cardiology methods

UltraGrid Researchers Demonstrate 8K Ultra High Definition Digital Media Streaming

On October 11th, 2012, at the 12th Annual Global LambdaGrid Workshop in Chicago, sponsored by the Global Lambda Integrated Facility (GLIF), an international ultra-high-definition, high-performance, digital streaming application was showcased by CESNET researchers at the SITOLA laboratory in the Czech Republic.
